The Detroit Pistons are starting to show their potential with Allen Iverson, beating two of the NBAs best teams in less than a week. Iverson scored 23 points, and Rasheed Wallace had 10 of his 21 points during a fourth-quarter surge that gave Detroit a 96-89 victory over Cleveland on Wednesday night that ended the Cavaliers eight-game winning streak. Detroit handed the Los Angeles Lakers their only defeat, beating them by double digits Friday night on the road. Its early, but its exciting, Iverson said. Wallace wouldnt go that far. Its not like we set out and said, `Oh, these are the NBAs hottest teams. Were just trying to make ourselves better, said Wallace, who had a season-high 15 rebounds. We really dont care about what the other teams are doing at that moment. We just want to make ourselves better for June. If the Pistons can keep playing tough defense against stars, as they did against LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, theyll improve their chances in the playoffs. James was 8-of-21 and missed all four of his 3-point attempts, but made enough free throws to finish with 25 points to fall just five below his league-leading average. In yet another magnificent performance in the NBA Finals, Michael Jordan fell just one assist shy of his first triple-double in a Finals game. MJ scored 38 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dropped nine dimes to lead the Bulls to a 97-85 win over the Utah Jazz in game two of the 1997 NBA Finals. Jordan's triple-double seemed like a sure thing after a pass late in the game to a wide open Scottie Pippen. Pip missed the layup, however, and Jordan finished with nine assists. Pippen had somewhat of an off night offensively, hitting just four of 13 shots for 10 points. Ron Harper scored 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting. The Jazz were led by Karl Malone's 20 points, followed by 19 from Jeff Hornacek and 14 from John Stockton. The Bulls took a 2-0 lead in the series and prepared to head to Utah for games 3, 4 and 5.
